Derailment
“Three-board PLO bomb pot”
- Board game
- Other
- Pot-limit
- 4 cards
A variant of 5 Card Double Board Bomb Pot PLO.
It’s like a double board bomb pot, except there are three boards and one gets thrown off the tracks
Take the 5 Card Double Board Bomb Pot PLO: antes, no pre-flop betting, Omaha hands per board. Now deal three boards. After the rivers, the board with the lowest river card is removed. The pot is chopped between the best hand on each of the two remaining boards.
Rarity: very low. The only official text is a short WSOP entry. Third-party evidence is home-game forum threads, where it is a “circus game” with “much pain”. We found no evidence it is a regular cash-room game. Details below are marked where WSOP’s text is silent.
30-second cheat sheet
- Bomb pot: ante, no pre-flop betting, flops dealt immediately. 8 players max.
- Three boards, each with a flop, turn and river.
- Omaha rule per board: exactly two hole cards plus three from that board.
- After the river, the board with the lowest river card is out.
- The pot is chopped between the best hands on the two surviving boards.
- WSOP does not say how many hole cards you get. We assume four (see below).
Full rules
What WSOP actually says
The entire entry: “All the rules of double board bomb pot apply with the following changes: three boards will be used until the river. The lowest card by suit on the river will have that entire board taken out of play. The pot will be chopped between the best hand on the two boards remaining.”
Hole cards: unconfirmed
WSOP doesn’t state it. The entry follows the 5-card double-board game, which might suggest five, but eight players with five cards and three boards would need 55 cards, more than a deck. Four hole cards uses 47. [INFERENCE] Four is likely but unconfirmed. A different UK home game called “3D” has three boards and four hole cards but requires two hole cards plus one card from each board. That is not Derailment.
Deal and betting
Same as the bomb pot: antes, no pre-flop action, no burn before the flop, betting starts left of the button after the flop. Pot-limit.
The derailment and showdown
When all three rivers are out, the board whose river card is lowest is eliminated. Players then compare Omaha hands (two hole + three board) on the two remaining boards. A player winning both scoops, winning one takes half, and ties split that half.
Rooms disagree
“Lowest card by suit” is ambiguous. It presumably means lowest river card by rank, with a suit tie-break for equal ranks, but WSOP gives no suit order. [INFERENCE] The usual poker suit order of clubs, diamonds, hearts, spades is a likely tie-break. Forum threads also argue about when to remove the board, immediately or after a pause. WSOP doesn’t say. Ask the floor.
Worked examples
No verified examples. The example evaluator cannot score multi-board games.
How you’ll embarrass yourself
- Betting on a board that might get derailed. Any of your boards can vanish, so your equity depends on the river ranks across all three.
- Thinking one best hand wins. The pot is chopped across the two surviving boards.
- Forgetting the lowest river card is what counts, not the lowest board, and suits may break ties.
- Assuming five hole cards. Check what the dealer deals.
Lore and reputation
It is named in WSOP’s 2026 live-action rules, so it can legitimately be called in that context. Beyond that, we found only home-game forum posts listing it as a PLO “circus game”. A forum snippet also calls it “a twist on the classic Gods Game”; that is a forum claim. Treat it as a novelty extension of the bomb pot. Squid Game is a related three-board game with similar elimination.
Three-board PLO bomb pot; lowest river card kills its board
Rarity: very low. WSOP text is one paragraph, so several details are inferred.
Cheat sheet
- Double-board bomb-pot rules: ante, no pre-flop action, 8-max, pot-limit.
- Three boards through the river. Lowest river card removes that board.
- Pot is chopped between best hands on the two surviving boards. Omaha rule per board.
- Hole cards unspecified. Four is the only count that fits 8 players on 3 boards. [INFERENCE]
Watch out for
- “Lowest card by suit”: suit order undefined by WSOP. Clubs-diamonds-hearts-spades tie-break is a guess.
- When to remove the board is undefined.
- Not the UK “3D” game (2 hole + 1 per board).
